Common Questions Asked By Our Patients

Does Dr. Norton recommend black mercury fillings or
    composite tooth colored fillings?
Dr. Norton has not placed black mercury fillings for approximately 10 years. We feel that composite or tooth colored fillings are more durable, more pleasing, are not conductors of thermal sensitivity (hot or cold) and are bonded to place so they will not leak.

What is the difference between Lumineers and Veneers?
Veneers or Lumineers are thin shells of Porcelain that are bonded to place. Lumineers are marketed as "no prep" Veneers. That is, natural tooth does not have to be removed. These are great if the situation allows.

What is the best way to lighten your natural teeth?
We recommend the Zoom process. This is an in-office process that takes about 1.5 hours to complete. We have had very good results with this system (you might have seen it on the TV program Extreme Makeover). It is safe and very fast. If you have very dark teeth, Dr. Norton might ask you to wear a thin bleaching tray in the evening for a couple of weeks to help with the bleaching process.

What are the options for replacing a missing tooth?
Basically there are three ways to do this. One way would be to place an implant and crown. The 2nd way would be to fabricate a fixed bridge (two crowns with a fake tooth suspended between the crowns) and the 3rd way would be to fabricate a removable partial. This would be a device that has a metal framework and teeth attached replacing the missing ones.

Can my treatment be phased so that I don't have to do it all at once?
Absolutely! We have many patients that want to do their treatment over a period of months or even years due to either finances or busy schedules or both. We use a process called transitional bonding where the worn or unsightly teeth are restored with composite resin until such time that you can do the more durable restorations.

Are cosmetic dentistry procedures covered by insurance?
Insurance coverage depends on the individual policy. However, most plans are only designed to cover routine maintenance and basic care.

We are happy to help you receive the maximum benefit; but keep in mind that the agreement of the insurance company to pay for your dental care is a contract between you and the insurance carrier. We encourage you to discuss your options with our business staff.

Do you offer any kind of payment plans?
Yes! Because your smile is important to us, we are pleased to offer the CareCredit card, North America's leading patient payment program. CareCredit lets you begin your treatment immediately, then pay for it over time with low monthly payments that are easy to fit into your monthly budget. So, you can begin your dental care treatment today and conveniently pay with low, monthly payments.

CareCredit offers a full range of No Interest and Extended Payment Plans. It's easy to apply and you'll receive an online decision in seconds. Apply now or see our staff for more details.
